# How to Create a Discount in Shopify

Creating a discount in Shopify allows you to offer promotional pricing to your customers. Follow the steps below to create a discount code that customers can apply during checkout.

### Open the Discounts Page

1. From the **Shopify Admin** left sidebar, click **Discounts**.
2. Click the **Create discount** button.

### Choose a Discount Type

Shopify provides several discount types. Select the one that best fits your promotion.

* **Amount off products** – Offer a fixed amount or percentage off specific products.
* **Amount off order** – Apply a discount to the entire order.
* **Buy X Get Y** – Reward customers with free or discounted items.
* **Free shipping** – Remove shipping charges based on your conditions.

### Enter the Discount Code

In the **Discount code** field:

* Enter a unique code (for example, **SAVE10**).
* Customers will enter this code during checkout or in the cart drawer (if enabled in your theme).

### Configure the Discount Value

Choose the discount value.

* **Percentage** (Example: 10%)

* **Fixed amount** (Example: $20 OFF)

### Set Eligibility Rules

Configure who can use the discount.

Examples:

* Minimum purchase amount

### Combinations

The **Combinations** setting determines whether this discount can be combined with other active discounts.

* Product discounts — Allow customers to combine this order discount with eligible **Product Discounts**.
* Order discounts — Allow this discount to be combined with other eligible **Order Discounts**.
* Shipping discounts — Allow customers to combine this order discount with **Free Shipping** or other shipping discounts.

### Set Active Dates

Choose when the discount will be available.

* Start date
* End date (Optional)

### Save the Discount

Click **Save**.

Your **Amount Off Products** discount is now active.

## Applying the Discount in the Cart Drawer

If the **Show Discount** option is enabled in your theme settings:

**Theme Settings → Cart → Show Discount**

Customers can:

### Open the cart drawer.

### **Expand the Discount section.**

### Enter the discount code.

### **Click Apply.**

### The discount will be applied instantly if the code is valid.
